My favorite wine characteristics:

I enjoy a variety of wine characteristics from many different types of wines. I like light, crisp, dry whites that have notes of melon, citrus and mineral, but I am much more into the characteristics found in red wines. I find it is nice to have a medium bodied, dry red when relaxing in the evening. Flavors of blackberry, black-cherry and spice usually are found in the types of wines that I appreciate on their own, but what I really love is wine with food. Finding a hearty, bold and deep wine that matches the food experience is what it is all about. Discovering wines with complexity and character that pair well, but don’t overpower the food is the perfect challenge.

My favorite types of wine:

I appreciate a nice light, crisp Pinot Grigio or Falanghina on a warm day or with friends because they are easy on the palate yet still have great flavor. My true passion is for reds; I enjoy Pinot Noirs from Oregon and French Burgundies and have recently come to love Spanish Monastrells. Bigger wines like Cabernets from California, Shirazs from Australia and Malbecs from South America are great and their depth really challenges my palate. I have found that I am able to truly appreciate most red varietals and the occasional Bordeaux blend.

My favorite wine experience:

Having worked for Pascale’s for several years, I have had many great wine experiences. I have taken the Food and Wine Pairing seminar at Justin’s Grill, which has taught me a variety of different pairing schemes, many of which I use when I cook at home. I also recently took a wine class with other Pascale’s employees, which I found very informative and also very enjoyable. I also participated in a staff trip to California’s infamous Napa Valley and Sonoma County. On the trip I witnessed, first-hand, how wines are produced and I even sampled many of the newest vintages straight from the barrel. All of these experiences have broadened my knowledge of wine, and have proven to be fun and pleasurable. My favorite thing about possessing wine experience and knowledge is being able to help friends, family and customers find wines that are enjoyable to them.
